The Athletic's Carl Anka has told Southampton what to do if they receive a big-money offer for Jan Bednarek.
The 21-cap Poland international joined the club from Lech Poznan in the summer of 2017 for a reported sum of £5m, and has become a key player under Ralph Hasenhuttl since the Austrian arrived at St Mary's.
Bednarek has started all of Southampton's Premier League games except for one this season, only missing out against Crystal Palace because of an Achilles injury - he has 24 starts under his belt, scoring one goal.
However, Anka has made a revelation regarding what Southampton should do if a big-money offer arrived for the centre-back.
What did he say?
In a Q&A session on Friday afternoon, a supporter asked: "Which players from our team do you think other teams will be trying to sign in the summer Carl?
"I'm assuming Vestergaard, Boufal and Romeu will all leave as they are not starters here. But I could see Bednarek, Højbjerg, Ings and JWP getting interest."
To which Anka replied: "This... seems like a good list, bar Ings who is 27.
"Whisper... but if someone offers big money for Bednarek, take it."
Forget Danny Ings & Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
Arguably two of Southampton's biggest assets are Danny Ings and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, both of whom were linked with moves away from St Mary's during the January window - Manchester United made an enquiry for Ings, while Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton are believed to be keen on Højbjerg.
However, on paper, Bednarek is just as key as the duo given how often Hasenhuttl starts him, so it is intriguing to see that Anka would be willing to accept the cash and part ways with the 23-year-old if he were the one making the decisions.
The Southampton No.35 has not actually been linked with an exit from the club, although at just 23 years of age and with consistent Premier League game time at his feet, he is surely only going to improve.
Someone's got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
Given that information, Anka's stance on Bednarek is interesting - why would The Athletic's Southampton correspondent feel the defender is surplus to requirements should a hefty offer arrive?
Only he knows that, but one thing is for sure - it is an intriguing opinion to hold.
