Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl spoke positively about striker Sam Gallagher's return to training following injury during his Leicester City pre-match press conference on Thursday, and he could well be ready to spring a huge surprise by selecting the 23-year-old in his squad to face the Foxes on Saturday.

What's the word, then?

Well, the south coast outfit will be looking to build upon their 0-0 draw away at Chelsea last time out and move out of the Premier League relegation zone when they face former boss Claude Puel and his men on Saturday, but Hasenhuttl is short of attacking options given Danny Ings and Michael Obafemi will both again be missing because of injury.

With Manolo Gabbiadini signing for Sampdoria the 51-year-old has been left with a choice between Shane Long and Charlie Austin for the centre-forward role, although Gallagher might be a contender to come into the 18 and make his first Saints appearance since August.

The Austrian manager told southamptonfc.com: "Sam Gallagher is also back on the pitch, he's had two sessions now. He looks good, which is good news."

Could he feature at the King Power?

It could be a possibility that he makes the bench and has a chance of making just his second outing of the campaign for the club.

With Long and Austin the south coast outfit's only options right now and with another attacking player in Mohamed Elyounoussi struggling for form, there is certainly a distinct possibility that Hasenhuttl will want another attacking option in his squad and Gallagher fits the bill.

While he has the height to potentially offer Saints a plan B on the pitch, but he is also pretty quick for a bigger centre-forward and would certainly suit his manager's pressing style in his favoured 4-2-2-2 system.
