Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Cedric Soares. The report states that Southampton will listen to lower offers for the 33-cap Portugal international, believed to be under £6m, due to the fact that he is out of contract in the summer.

The 28-year-old is on Arsenal's radar as the Gunners look to bolster Mikel Arteta's backline, which has been weakened after Calum Chambers suffered an injury which will see him miss the remainder of the campaign.

It was also revealed by the player himself in an interview with The Telegraph earlier this season that he intends to leave St Mary's at the end of the campaign.

A departure for the former Sporting Lisbon man would leave Ralph Hasenhuttl with only one right-back in the shape of Yan Valery, who hasn't featured in any competition since November with what is believed to be a 'viral infection'.

However, Dan Sheldon of The Daily Echo said that the Saints could announce the loan signing of Kyle Walker-Peters on Tuesday, so that move seems imminent and would strengthen the right-back department with another body.

Let's see what the Southampton fans on Twitter have been saying about the Cedric news...

To kick off the discussion, these two fans shared their views on Arsenal's interest.

One supporter with the username 'Saint Harris' said "we can hope" as they appeared to want Cedric to depart St Mary's.

Another fan - Together as One - said "take the money" before saying that the club "might as well get some money for him" given his comments to The Telegraph about departing.

Elsewhere, these two supporters had contrasting views on the situation and how Walker-Peters could impact things.

Lucy said, if the club can get a deal for Walker-Peters sorted, selling Cedric to Arsenal "would probably make sense".

However, Steve said that he'd "rather we kept hold of him until the summer" as he doubts Valery will play much football in the second half of the season, and keeping Cedric will "give us time" to assess the soon-to-be-arriving Tottenham right-back properly.

Meanwhile. James said that it "doesn't make too much sense" to hand Cedric to another challenger for the Europa League spots, but if the Saints signed "the Celtic and Spurs kids" - Jeremie Frimpong, who David Ornstein said was of interest to Southampton, and Walker-Peters - then he'd be happy with it.

Lastly, Kieran said that he'll "never know why" Cedric is linked with big clubs as he "isn't all that special" - ouch.

Someone's got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?
