The Daily Echo's Dan Sheldon has provided an update regarding Southampton's stance on Cedric.

What's the word, then?

Well, Sheldon provides the information amid The Telegraph's report that Arsenal are eyeing up a move to sign the 33-cap Portugal international before Friday's deadline.

The former Sporting Lisbon man has made 16 Premier League appearances this season, but will be out of contract at the end of the campaign and also told The Telegraph that he intends to leave St Mary's when his deal expires.

Arsenal are looking at the 28-year-old as an option to bolster Mikel Arteta's backline, as the Spaniard will be without Calum Chambers for the rest of the season after he picked up a knee injury.

Other than Cedric, Ralph Hasenhuttl has Yan Valery at his disposal, while a loan deal for Kyle Walker-Peters appears to be close according to Sheldon.

What did he say?

Regarding the Saints' stance on Cedric, Sheldon tweeted that the south coast side will consider whether or not to cash in on their right-back if an offer arrives in the coming days.

In his report of the news, Sheldon adds that Southampton are 'open to the idea' of selling the Portuguese full-back as a result of his contract situation, while there is said to be a 'belief behind the scenes' that the imminent arrival of Walker-Peters would mean that it makes sense to cash in on him while they can still recoup some money for the former Sporting Lisbon man.

Sheldon also writes that the Gunners could be looking to move for the full-back now so that they can pip other sides to his signature in the summer.
