Southampton finished in the top half of the Premier League table for the fourth consecutive season after the club ended the campaign in eighth position under the leadership of Frenchman Claude Puel.
After again losing a number of high profile players last summer – including Sadio Mane to Liverpool – many expected the Saints to finally succumb to their losses and struggle not only to break into the top half, but also perhaps maintain their top flight status.
Puel and his men proved the doubters wrong in resounding fashion however, as they equalled their third-highest ever Premier League finish and reached the League Cup final only to be beaten on the day by Manchester United despite arguably being the better of the two sides.
Despite this season’s achievements, however, boss Puel could reportedly be replaced over the summer as Southampton look to once again build and push for European football, with former Hull City boss Marco Silva linked.
The 39-year-old joined Hull City in January, but despite an upturn in the club’s fortunes was unable to keep them from relegation. So Southampton fans, who would you rather have in charge next season. Puel or Silva? Let us know by voting below…
