The Athletic's Carl Anka has suggested that Matt Crocker 'should be officially starting' his role as Southampton's Director of Football Operations today - on Monday 3rd February. Before leaving St Mary's to become a part of the FA, Crocker worked with the Saints for seven years as he oversaw the club's academy and pathways into the first-team, holding the role during a time where Southampton were granted Category One status for their facilities and number of players who have progressed into the first-team.This information was detailed on Southampton's official website back on November 26th, when Crocker's return was officially announced - however, the club failed to give a specific starting date, simply saying that he would begin work in early 2020.

Now, Anka has shed light on Crocker's starting date.

What did he say?

Anka tweeted: "Also if I've done my maths right, Matt Crocker should be officially starting as Southampton's Director of Footballing Operations today. Let's see if we get an announcement. #SaintsFC"

Good to see

Since Crocker's appointment was announced in November, little has been said about when he would be starting work in his new role.

The former FA employee - who was Head of Development Teams during a fine period for England which saw the Three Lions win the U20 side win the World Cup and the senior side reach the semi-finals of the World Cup - will be in charge of 'every aspect' of Southampton's football operations, and also develop every department that support all of the club's teams.

After a period in the dark of when Crocker would actually get his feet under the table, Anka has now somewhat put the topic to bed with his tweet.
