According to reports in The Telegraph, Southampton are considering making an approach for Norwich City technical director Stuart Webber later this month ss they continue their search for a replacement for Les Reed.
Well, Saints parted company with the 65-year-old last week after he spent more than eight years at St Mary’s, and they are now looking for his successor.
The Telegraph says that the south coast outfit are looking to revamp their off-field infrastructure and would hand Webber the same role he is currently in at Carrow Road, as they look to improve results on the pitch following a largely disastrous 15 months or so.
The 34-year-old has played a major role for the Canaries who currently lie top of the Championship standings, while he also played a big part in Huddersfield Town’s promotion to the Premier League in 2017.
It might well be, especially seeing as they were linked with Wagner back in March.
The Telegraph report that Webber was the man behind appointing David Wagner during his time with the Terriers, and despite their struggles so far this term it has proved to be an outstanding appointment for the Yorkshire club.
With Mark Hughes currently not looking to be the right man for the Southampton job with them hovering above the relegation zone having only picked up one win from their 12 Premier League fixtures during the current campaign, the Saints board might hope that bringing the 34-year-old to St Mary’s would then tempt Wagner to do the same.
The German boss has got Huddersfield playing good football and performed something of a miracle by keeping them up last season, and he would be someone that would bring some much-needed fresh ideas to the south coast.
