Southampton's out-on-loan forward Mohamed Elyounoussi has provided an update on his future to Norwegian outlet TV2.

The 24-cap Norway international - who has five goals for his country - arrived at St Mary's from FC Basel in the summer of 2018 for a reported sum of £16m.

However, the attacker failed to score in 19 appearances for the Saints, and also couldn't even muster up an assist as well before joining Celtic on a season-long loan deal back in the summer.

At Celtic Park, Elyounoussi has thrived with seven goals and six assists in 13 appearances - he has now provided an update on his future.

What did he say?

Elyounoussi told TV2: "I still get messages from the assistant coach and the physical therapists there. They ask how things are going and keep an eye on me. I enjoy Celtic, it's a fantastic, big and nice club. I have to think about the future as it approaches summer. Now it's all about getting back into shape. I think more about the here and now than the future."

Celtic form suggests he could still thrive

While there is arguably a difference in quality between the Scottish Premiership and the English Premier League, Elyounoussi has done his chances of making it at Southampton no harm with his performances over in Scotland.

The 25-year-old has been involved in a goal per game on average under Neil Lennon this term, with a section of Celtic supporters on Twitter left drooling over one performance in particular against Ross County, in which he bagged two goals.

Furthermore, after just 19 appearances in Southampton colours, it could also be argued that the Norwegian hasn't really had a proper chance to prove himself at St Mary's.

Therefore, it is encouraging to see that Southampton figures are still in touch with him during his stint with the Bhoys, although Elyounoussi also appears to be having an enjoyable time at Celtic Park judging by his comments on the reigning Scottish champions.
