Former Southampton target Quincy Promes scored a crucial goal for the Netherlands in their 2-2 UEFA Nations League draw with Germany on Monday night, and fans on Twitter were quick to react.

Saints reportedly came close to bringing the talented attacker to St Mary's during the January transfer window at the beginning of this year, but no deal materialised as Mauricio Pellegrino looked to add to his side's firepower as they battled relegation.

While some supporters of the south coast outfit may have hoped that a move would perhaps be reignited during the summer, it didn't prove to be the case and the Dutchman joined La Liga club Sevilla instead from Spartak Moscow.

The 26-year-old stepped up to the plate for the Oranje on Monday with a fine curling finish that was followed by an equaliser by Virgil van Dijk that ensure Ronald Koeman's men qualified for the finals in Portugal next summer alongside the host nation, England and Switzerland.
