Southampton striker Shane Long played 34 minutes as a substitute in the Republic of Ireland's 1-0 UEFA Nations League defeat against Wales on Tuesday night, and fans were quick to react on Twitter to what was another disappointing display from him.

The 31-year-old has become something of a laughing stock in the football world given his poor goalscoring record for club and country – he is without an international goal since 2016 – and his cameo against Wales certainly did him no favours.

Long, who has scored only five goals in his previous 68 Premier League appearances for the south coast outfit, displayed a poor touch and finishing once again in his short time on the pitch – something the St Mary's faithful have become accustomed to in recent seasons.

Plenty of fans took to social media to give their thoughts on the centre-forward's latest display, and while one labelled him as "useless", another simply said he is "terrible at football".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction...
