Five strikers who could kick-start Puel’s Southampton revolution

It has been another disappointing summer of player departures for Southampton this summer.

Not only have the club lost their prized manager in Ronald Koeman, but Graziano Pelle also moved to China and Sadio Mane made the career-leap to Liverpool.

Fortunately, Southampton are no strangers to a player exodus – and have dealt with this situation a few times before.

It would take a bold man to bet against this side rebuilding and becoming even stronger next season.

With new manager Claude Puel already installed, he has set his sights on rebuilding his Southampton side, and has reportedly placed a new striker at the top of his wanted list.

With a host of options reportedly being looked at, Puel will no doubt make sure he picks the right man to lead his attack next season.

With that, here are FIVE strikers who could kick start Claude Puel’s Southampton revolution…

Christian Tello

Though Christian Tello is more renowned as a winger, reports in the British press are suggesting that Puel is after the ex-Barcelona man as he targets a new number 9.

The 24 year old Spanish international has made nearly 60 first team appearances for Barcelona to date, as well as more than 50 on loan over the last few seasons.

With Barcelona reportedly looking to sell, Southampton are being reported as leading the chase for the youngster.

The Sun are reporting that Southampton are keen to put a £10 million offer in for the Barcelona man; which could be enough to bring him to England.

Bas Dost

Another striker that Southampton are reportedly chasing is the fantastically named Bas Dost.

Despite being unknown in these parts, Dost has been prolific during his career and has bagged 36 league goals in his 4 year spell with current side Wolfsburg in Germany.

HITC have suggested that a bid has gone in for the forward.

The striker himself has recently discussed the idea of a move to the club. He has suggested that he likes the idea of the move, describing Southampton as a ‘nice club’ – good news for Saints fans!

Moussa Marega

Moussa Margea is another reported target of the South-Coast side.

The towering forward is currently playing for Porto, though he spent last season on loan at Vitória Guimarães. He returned to the Portuguese side in January, and went on to score an impressive 12 goals for the side.

Now Southampton are reportedly keen on his services, and would like to bring him to the club this summer.

HITC are again running with this one, and are suggesting that a bid could be imminent for the in-form French forward.

Saido Berahino

Saido Berahino’s West Brom future has been up in the air for months, and it seems that Southampton are yet to give up on bringing the young English forward to the South Coast this summer.

Seen as the perfect long-term replacement for Pelle, the club are keen on bringing Berahino to the club.

The Express is reporting that the club seek to use some of the funds gained by the sale of Sadio Mane to fund the move, with West Brom likely to ask up to £25 million for his signature.

A proven Premier League goal scorer with his best years ahead of him; Berahino would be a star at Southampton.

Loic Remy

Loic Remy 1

Southampton haven’t been linked directly with Loic Remy this summer; though it is easy to see where he could fit in with the club.

Remy hasn’t been able to hold down a first team spot with Chelsea since joining the club a couple of years ago, with the player potentially seeking a move away from the club this summer.

When called upon Remy almost ALWAYS delivers, and he has scored some crucial goals during his spell in London.

In Remy Southampton would get a guaranteed goalscorer; and given the fact that he is likely surplus to requirements at Chelsea – they could get him for a cut price fee.

A short term fix, sure – but a very good one.
