Former Southampton star Jose Fonte has responded to the club's Instagram post.

The upload in question showed a flashback to Sadio Mane scoring the Premier League's fastest ever hat-trick in a 6-1 win over Aston Villa from back in 2015 - a match in which Fonte started at centre-back.

Mane - now a European champion with Liverpool - scored three goals in two minutes and 56 seconds against the Villans, smashing Robbie Fowler's record of four minutes and 32 seconds which he set against Arsenal in 1994.

Fonte clearly remembered the occasion well, after responding to Southampton's Instagram post showing all three of the former RB Salzburg forward's goals.

The Portugal international and European Championship winner is currently with Lille, having left St Mary's for West Ham in 2017 in a deal worth £8m.

He made 286 appearances for the Saints after arriving from Crystal Palace, scoring 15 goals and grabbing nine assists.
