The Athletic's Carl Anka has spoken out about what the future holds for Fraser Forster.

The Southampton glovesman - who rejoined Celtic on a season-long loan back in the summer - is enjoying a fine campaign with the Hoops.

Impressively, the six-cap England international has conceded just 22 goals in 34 appearances for the reigning Scottish champions, while also keeping an eye-catching 15 clean sheets in all competitions.

However, his spell with Celtic will obviously come to an end when the season finishes - Anka has spoken out about what he thinks the future holds for the goalkeeper at Southampton.

What did he say?

When asked about Ralph Hasenhuttl's plans for the 31-year-old, Anka wrote: "This has been bubbling away for sometime now and Ralph hasn't given many comments outside "It's nice he's doing well, but I'm not focused on him".

"My understanding is Forster is willing to take a paycut to stay at Celtic, so the chances of him staying in Scotland are pretty good."

Very interesting

With Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn already vying for the No.1 jersey at St Mary's anyway, Forster's chances of game-time at Southampton upon returning seem bleak.

He looks much happier at Celtic Park, where he has saved a penalty from Alfredo Morelos in the Scottish Cup final while also saving one against Copenhagen in the Europe League knockout stages recently.

It would be harsh to take him back from that and leave him sat on the bench to compete with two other top-class goalkeepers, so Anka's comments which reveal that there's a good chance of the Englishman remaining with Neil Lennon's side are pleasing to hear.

When did that happen?! Premier League experts will know which surprising clubs these stars once played for...

Furthermore, from Forster's perspective, the fact that he is willing to take a paycut to remain with Celtic tells you everything you need to know about where he wants to play his football.
