In his weekly segment called Ornstein on Monday, The Athletic's David Ornstein revealed that Southampton are looking at Celtic right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

What's the word, then?

Well, the 19-year-old only moved to Celtic Park back in the summer in a deal worth an initial £350k from Manchester City, which could rise to £1m.

Since then, the teenager has made 19 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys, scoring two goals and grabbing four assists.

Ornstein confirms that, while a move will not happen this month, Celtic's resolve will likely be tested in the summer.

If Frimpong was to move clubs once again, the Citizens would be due 30% of the transfer fee due to the terms of his Etihad exit last summer.

Bad news for Yan Valery

Southampton interest in Frimpong, and their pursuit of Tottenham right-back Kyle Walkers-Peters, means things may not be looking good for Yan Valery.

The 20-year-old hasn't played since the end of November with what is being reported as an 'ongoing illness' - despite that, the Saints' interest in two players roughly the same age as the Frenchman could be telling.

Frimpong, as aforesaid, is just 19 years of age, whereas Walker-Peters is 22, and in our view, it doesn't seem as if Ralph Hasenhuttl trusts Valery given the double transfer news.

Incidentally, the Walker-Peters deal would be a loan if he chooses the Saints over Crystal Palace, while Ornstein says that a move for Frimpong would happen in the summer if at all, so where does that leave Valery?

It very much seems as if Hasenhuttl is trying to find someone to seriously compete with Cedric for the rest of this season, and then strengthen the area properly in the summer.

In our view, if the former RB Leipzig boss rated Valery that highly, he wouldn't be eyeing up a number of other right-backs.
