Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Telegraph reported that Ralph Hasenhuttl showed his players a specially prepared montage before their 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday.
The clip in question showcased the Saints’ 9-0 defeat to the Foxes from back in October and seemed to be designed to inspire the squad to a committed display against the side who embarrassed them in front of their own supporters – Brendan Rodgers’ side equalled the largest ever Premier League win with their victory at St Mary’s.
Hasenhuttl’s managerial decision did the trick as he watched his players battle back from a goal down to record a 2-1 win, courtesy of Danny Ings’ late strike which was the England international’s 14th Premier League goal of the season.
On the former RB Leipzig boss’ decision to play the pre-match montage, James Ward-Prowse said: “We watched a motivational video of what happened before and what we’ve done differently until now.
“You could see everybody was focused on it and we wanted to make sure we came into the dressing room with a different feeling to last time.”
Following the win in the Midlands, Southampton have now won four and drawn one of their last five Premier League games which has propelled them up to 12th in the table on 28 points, just six points off fifth.
Let’s see what the Saints supporters on Twitter have been saying about Hasenhuttl’s decision to play the montage…

Cant argue with the results

Elsewhere, this fan named Kris said that you “can’t argue with the results” from Hasenhuttl’s decision – you really wouldn’t have a leg to stand on if you did try to mount an argument, for the results have been excellent.
Double incentive then as they were showing the goals on the big screen whilst we were warming up!
— Jason Lawson (@jase1962) January 13, 2020
He didn’t need to as Leicester were already playing it in the ground. Classy.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Lastly, these two fans both referred to Leicester’s decision to play the highlights of that 9-0 defeat on the big screen at the King Power Stadium, with Jason saying that it was a “double incentive” that Hasenhuttl also decided to show a repeat of that loss.
Another supporter mentioned the same moment and sarcastically said that it was “classy”.
In other news, these Southampton fans have reacted to a “lazy” report linking this player to a “proper mess”…
