Ralph Hasenhuttl has been speaking to the media ahead of his side's Premier League clash against Wolves this Saturday, and he had some information to share on transfers.

The former RB Leipzig boss hinted that the Saints' good form of late may have changed his mind in regards to what the club need to do in the market this month.

Back towards the end of December, Hasenhuttl promised that Southampton "will do something" in regards to strengthening the full-back areas.

However, he seems to have backtracked slightly following a run of four wins and a draw from his side's last five Premier League games, which has propelled his side into 12th in the Premier League on 28 points.

What did he say?

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the 52-year-old said: "It's not long ago I said it was important to bring someone in, but the way the team has played in the past few weeks, I think we have to now be very careful with what we do.

"We don't want to bring someone in that may block their development because as a club we want to develop these young players. The good thing is we can do something if we want but we won't do anything unnecessary - we don't have a must now.

"But if something makes sense and is really perfect for us then maybe we will do something."

Shouldn't be influenced by recent form

While it simply cannot be denied that Southampton's recent form has been excellent, Hasenhuttl would be naive to feel that the string of results means that his squad is now no longer in need of reinforcements.

Hypothetically speaking, a couple of injuries could completely change the Saints and the team's outlook, as they really do not have much depth behind those who start on a weekly basis.

For example, behind Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens, Hasenhuttl has just 31-year-old Maya Yoshida - a man who has played just five Premier League minutes since October and will be out of contract in the summer - and Jannik Vestergaard, who the club are open to selling, as backup.

Elsewhere, in the full-back positions, the Austrian coach has Cedric - who is also out of contract in the summer - and young Yan Valery at right-back and only Ryan Bertrand as a senior option at left-back.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Southampton have been lucky with injuries over the course of this glorious run of form, but while things are looking rosy right now, Hasenhuttl shouldn't allow himself to be blinded to what his side really needs.
