Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react to Ralph Hasenhuttl's transfer comments.

The former RB Leipzig boss was speaking ahead of his side's Premier League clash with Wolves this weekend, and he managed to shed some light on the Saints' chances of bringing in new faces this month.

As tweeted by The Athletic's Carl Anka, the Austrian said: "If we bring someone in, we must not bring someone in who blocks their development. We don't do anything that we don't have to do."

Anka also wrote that 'Hasenhuttl says transfer isn't a MUST, but a CAN, as he has faith in a returning Valery and Vokins development.'

Now, this strongly implies that the 52-year-old is satisfied with what he has at his disposal.

However, it also goes against what he said towards the end of December, where he practically promised reinforcements in the full-back areas as reported by Sky Sports.

Defensive additions certainly wouldn't go amiss at St Mary's, as Hasenhuttl's side have conceded the third-most goals in the Premier League this term with 39 concessions in 22 outings.

Let's see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To begin the reaction, Ollie went in strongly by saying that "we've been lied to again" - perhaps referencing Hasenhuttl's aforementioned transfer promise which he issued in December.

Furthermore, these two supporters both pointed the finger at the Southampton board members.

One supporter named James Callen said that "our board are useless" before saying that, just because results have improved recently, the need for new players is still there.

Another said that club owner Gao Jisheng "has said the biscuit tin is staying shut then" - implying that Gao has a tight stranglehold on the purse-strings at St Mary's.

Elsewhere, Joe Bartlett and SaintsNews&Views felt that these comments mean the club won't be making any new signings this January.

SaintsNews&Views said that doing so would be a "big risk, especially if anyone gets injured or if current momentum dwindles" - they're not wrong.

Lastly, Kirsty simply said "shock" when hearing of Hasenhuttl's comments.
