HYS: Should Southampton appoint Mark Hughes?

According to The Telegraph, Southampton have approached Mark Hughes as a potential replacement for Mauricio Pellegrino, who was relieved of his duties on Monday evening following a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle at the weekend that has left the south coast outfit just one point above the relegation zone.

The Welshman is certainly experienced in the Premier League from spells with Blackburn, Manchester City, Fulham, QPR and Stoke City but was sacked by the latter club in January following a shock defeat to Coventry City in the FA Cup – also leaving them with the worst defensive record in the top flight at that time.

So, Southampton fans, is the 54-year-old the right appointment to ensure Southampton preserve their Premier League status next season, or would following through with the club’s approach by giving Hughes the job seal their relegation to the Championship?
