Southampton’s disappointing season continued as they could only draw 0-0 with the bottom side going into the weekend, Newcastle United, at St Mary’s on Saturday.
The south coast outfit looked to have a great opportunity to pick up just their second Premier League win of 2018 on their own patch and put some much-needed space between them and the relegation zone, but instead they drew a blank for the fifth consecutive top-flight fixture.
Boos rang out at the final whistle at the weekend following another missed chance to get three points on the board and with the pressure growing on Mark Hughes – fans called for his head post-match on Twitter – the Welshman will not be happy about the daunting trip to face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Fulham are one of four clubs below Saints in the standings and the pressure is growing on Slavisa Jokanovic following the latest 3-0 reverse against Bournemouth at Craven Cottage on Saturday – even if he has received the dreaded vote of confidence from Cottagers owner Shahid Khan.
While they didn’t score against the Cherries they have generally looked decent from an attacking point of view, but it is at the back where they have major issues with a staggering 28 goals conceded in their 10 matches to date.
Nevertheless, the Serbian boss likes to play open and attacking football, and given what Southampton fans have been served up in recent seasons that should be an attractive option.
We want Saints supporters to vote on the poll below to tell us whether they would prefer to have Hughes or Jokanovic at the helm.
