Southampton fans have taken to Twitter following Darren Bent's suggestion that Tottenham should sign Danny Ings, and they haven't taken kindly to the former England striker's words.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: "If Spurs go and get Danny Ings, and he scored five or six before Kane returns, I don’t think Kane walks back into the team. For me, that’s a perfect fit. If Daniel Levy was to be serious and go and get Ings, it would be a great signing. It’s a no-brainer. Spurs should go and get Danny Ings."

The former Sunderland and Aston Villa forward makes it sound as easy as a game of Football Manager, and while Ings would be a good signing for the north Londoners given his impressive tally of 13 Premier League goals this season, Spurs can't just "go and get" the Southampton No.9 while Ralph Hasenhuttl's side are in a relegation battle.

In Southampton's most recent outing, it was Ings' goal against Jose Mourinho's men that secured a 1-0 win for the south coast side at St Mary's, putting him on 13 goals for the season which is more than Harry Kane, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Raheem Sterling have managed individually - he is quite simply having an excellent season.

Let's see how the Southampton fans on Twitter reacted to Bent's comments...

This fan began the reaction by going in hard on the talkSPORT pundit, by putting Bent's words down to nothing more than "a completely idiotic string of sentences" - ouch.

Elsewhere, this supporter called Stuart simply said "jog on" before also attaching a GIF - creative.

Another fan named Colin also went in hard on Bent, asking if anybody cared about what the ex-England international thinks.

Meanwhile, Caroline said that she has "no idea who that idiotic man is" before asking if Bent really thinks Hasenhuttl would sell Ings in the middle of the season during a relegation battle - this fan also said that there is "no respect" from some pundits or ex-players when it comes to Southampton.

It's the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?

Josh didn't like Bent's comments either, questioning the logic behind his words by asking why presenters would try and suggest he go elsewhere after performing well for just half a season.

Lastly, Jack also ridiculed Bent's comments, asking why the Saints would ever consider selling him.

In other news, Southampton shouldn't sign this target who shackled Zlatan Ibrahimovic recently...
