As reported by The Daily Star, Southampton are one of the clubs interested in signing full-back Luke Shaw from Manchester United this summer.

What's the story?

Shaw is currently struggling to prove to Jose Mourinho he is worth consistently starting at Old Trafford and was even hauled off at half-time in a recent FA Cup tie at home to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Star report that he's set to be sold by the Red Devils this summer, with a number of clubs interested in his services.

One of those clubs is his former side Southampton, say the paper, who face competition from the likes of Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea for his signature.

Rated at £13.5m by Transfermarkt and with United eager to sell, he's likely well within the price range of the St Mary's side.

A worthwhile return?

Shaw may be having a difficult time at United but he is still a quality full-back, something Southampton fans know only too well considering he was such a hit at a young age at the club.

Making 67 appearances for Saints before his big money move north, the England international impressed fans and pundits with his dynamic displays on the left flank.

Needing competition for Ryan Bertrand, Shaw would be an excellent addition to the Southampton squad this summer and it could be a good move for the player too, returning to the club he learned his trade at.

Southampton may well be the best chance of him finding the form that made him a much-hyped teenage prospect not too long ago.
