Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has said that Southampton should appoint David Moyes as their new manager following the sacking of Mark Hughes.

Hughes picked up a draw against Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend, but the positive result did not help the Welshman keep his job.

Indeed, it was announced on Monday that Hughes had departed St Mary's, leaving the Premier League outfit on the lookout for a new manager.

According to Sky Sports News, Moyes is open to talking to Southampton about the position, with the Scot available having left West Ham United at the end of last season.

Moyes has coached Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham since famously leaving Man United, and is keen to return to club management.

Parlour has said that Moyes would be the perfect fit for Southampton, who currently sit 18th in the Premier League table.

Parlour told talkSPORT:

“I think David Moyes would’ve been alright. He came on the show last week and he was very interested in trying to get back in (to management).

"His track record is unbelievable (when it comes to) keeping teams in the Premier League.”

Former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is believed to be the favourite to take control of Southampton, who travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday.
