Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was revealed by RB Salzburg Sporting Director Christoph Freund that Marin Pongračić could leave the Austrian side.

"It is possible that both will leave the club."

Pongračić - believed to be a long-term target for the Saints - has made seven appearances for RB Salzburg this season and played alongside Takumi Minamino and Erling Braut Håland before they made their moves to Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund respectively.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's side could benefit from a new addition at centre-back, as they have conceded the third-most goals in the Premier League this season with 39 concessions in 22 outings.

The Saints are also lacking competitive depth behind first-choice duo Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek.

Only Maya Yoshida, a 31-year-old who has played just five Premier League minutes since that crushing 9-0 defeat to Leicester in October, and Jannik Vestergaard, who the club are reportedly open to offers for, are at Hasenhuttl's disposal in terms of centre-back cover.

Pongračić - a 22-year-old Croatia U21 international - is believed to be in discussions with a club from aboard according to Welt Fussball, although it was not detailed who this club could be.

Let's see how the Southampton fans reacted to the update...

This supporter named Matt kicked off the discussion by saying that the Croatian would be a "fantastic signing" before going on to pinpoint the centre-back's strengths - his passing and defensive ability is apparently "on point", while Pongračić's long pass reminds Matt of Virgil van Dijk.

He also adds that it would be a "huge, huge signing" if Southampton pull it off.

Elsewhere, these three fans voiced their approval of this transfer target, with two saying that he'd be a "good signing" while another said they'd "be happy with Pongračić".

Specifically, a supporter with the username Ralph's Revolution said that the RB Salzburg man would "suit what Ralph is implementing" while also adding that the Croatian is "positionally very good for his age" and has "great vision".

Lastly, this pair of supporters both saw fit to mention Hasenhuttl, with one saying that, while Pongračić is a "decent, no nonsense" defender, he is not the full-back that the former RB Leipzig coach said the Saints are looking to bring in - the Austrian made that specific transfer declaration towards the end of December.

"It is absolutely clear that we must do something with the full-back positions. This is definitely a position we're looking at for the moment and we will do something."

It's the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?

Another fan named Jason said that "Ralph should be able to convince" Pongračić to come to St Mary's.

In other news, these Southampton fans have been discussing a "mad" update on a player who "Ralph loves"...
