The pressure on Southampton manager Mark Hughes increased following their goalless draw against fellow strugglers Newcastle United at St Mary’s last weekend, with Saints fans on Twitter turning against the man that saved them last term.
The south coast outfit’s blank against the Magpies mean that they have now gone five Premier League matches without a goal prior to their daunting trip to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City on Sunday, and they lie just two points above the bottom three.
Hughes has only won three of his league games in charge of Southampton since taking the reins in March, and one win in 10 top-flight fixtures this term suggests they are going to find themselves in a relegation battle again.
The south coast side lie two points above 18th-placed Fulham, and the pressure is also growing on Cottagers boss Slavisa Jokanovic following their 3-0 defeat against Bournemouth at Craven Cottage last time out.
