Mauricio Pellegrino has endured tough beginnings to life at Southampton. After Stoke City’s win over Huddersfield on Saturday, Saints have fallen into the drop zone and relegation has become a realistic threat for practicall the first time since they returned to the Premier League in 2012.
Of course, not every problem stems back to the manager. Claude Puel struggled to get the right tune out of Southampton last season as well and there’s a common feeling that the squad needs something of a revamp. But appointing a new manager to provide a much-needed bounce would certainly help raise spirits at St. Mary’s and highly-rated gaffer Marco Silva is now available after being sacked by Watford.
The Portuguese has a 31% win rate from his time in the Premier League with the Hornets and Hull City but many have been impressed with his organisational skills and impetus on attacking football. So we asked Southampton fans earlier this week whether their club should replace the struggling Pellegrino with Silva.
And according to our poll, 66% of Southampton fans would back that decision. Now seems as good a time as any to make that change; there’s still a few days until the January transfer window closes and Southampton don’t play in the Premier League until Wednesday.
