Jack Wilshere's future has been a talking point over the last 12 months due to the fact that his Arsenal contract expires this summer.

The midfielder has been at the club for 17 years, but he has now decided to leave, which has caught the attention of Southampton fans.

Via an Instagram post on Tuesday, Wilshere confirmed that he will walk away from the Emirates next month as a free agent.

The England international, who is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, explained that new manager Unai Emery had spoken to him about his future.

The Spanish coach was happy for Wilshere to sign a new deal, but admitted that the 26-year-old would not be a prominent member of the team.

The midfielder revealed that he agreed to take a pay cut, but upon discovering that his game time would be limited, he decided to walk away.

On Tuesday, The Mirror reported that Southampton are one of many clubs interested in signing Wilshere on a free transfer.

Manager Mark Hughes is said to be an admirer of the Arsenal man, despite the fact that he has suffered a handful of serious injuries over the last few seasons.
