Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez is a summer target for La Liga outfit Real Betis, according to The Sun, after they qualified for the Europa League, and we suggested that perhaps Southampton should make an ambitious move to bring the 24-year-old to St Mary's.

The Spaniard, who has scored 21 goals in 106 Premier League appearances for the Tyneside outfit according to Transfermarkt, proved he was the club's best attacking player this season having scored eight goals and provided a further four assists in 36 top flight outings.

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez certainly won't want to lose a player he seems to be very fond of, with his form in the closing few weeks of the campaign – six goals and one assist in their final eight fixtures – showing the quality he has in his locker and the potential he has for the future.

Meanwhile, Saints will surely be looking to strengthen their frontline this summer after only narrowly avoiding relegation to the Championship and only netting 37 goals, with the likes of Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic, who has been linked with a move to Ajax, not doing the business throughout the entire campaign.

We asked Southampton fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would like their club to sign Perez this summer, and a slight majority of 52% said they wouldn't.

Whether those supporters, a huge majority of which want a key defender to remain at St Mary's this summer, haven't been impressed with what they have seen from the 24-year-old or think they need to better, remains to be seen.
