Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to laud Oriol Romeu for his performance in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

The Spaniard didn't start against the south Londoners, although he had to come on following an injury to Cedric in the 21st minute - from that point on, you could question why Ralph Hasenhuttl didn't start the former Chelsea midfielder.

Funnily enough, the Saints scored in the 22nd minute, just seconds after the 28-year-old entered the fray thanks to Nathan Redmond's stunning strike into the top corner.

Following the full-time whistle, Romeu had six successful aerial duels to his name, as well as two key passes, two dribbles and three fouls won from the Crystal Palace players.

Southampton's No.14 also showcased his defensive ability having made two tackles, two interceptions and one clearance - it really was a great all-round performance from the midfielder.

The win lifted Hasenhuttl's men into ninth place on 31 points, and it was the Saints' fifth victory in their last seven league games - a truly brilliant run of form.

Let's see what the Southampton fans on Twitter thought of Romeu's display...

To begin the discussion, these three Southampton fans all referred to recent transfer speculation involving the former Barcelona man.

Romeu has been linked with a move back to Spain as Celta Vigo explore the possibility of signing him, although Dan Sheldon of The Daily Echo said that the midfielder will be going nowhere.

Jamie, Danny and 'antineil' all said that the industrial figure is worth keeping around, given how effectively he performed against the Eagles on Tuesday evening.

Elsewhere, Jamie Leach said "shout out to Romeu" ,who put in a "solid" display despite the rumours surrounding his future.

Lastly, Harry and Dan also sung the midfielder's praises.

Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Harry said that Romeu was "outstanding" against Crystal Palace, whereas Dan made the interesting point that Southampton threw away a 2-0 lead without the Spaniard in the side against Wolves, but instead built on their advantage against the Eagles with him on the pitch.
