Everton gaffer Ronald Koeman was eyeing a transfer swoop for the Spaniard during his time as Southampton manager and has reportedly brought that interest with him to Goodison Park.
But according to The Sun, it’s Koeman’s former club – the Saints – who are currently leading the transfer battle for Recio’s signature.
They’re targeting the former Spain U21 as a potential replacement for Victor Wanyama, who completed an £11million move to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.
Koeman’s successor Claude Puel has only made one acquisition so far, sealing a transfer deal for former Bayern Munich midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
