Southampton can go from strength to strength and progress up the table after avoiding relegation, according to Morgan Schneiderlin.
The highly-rated French midfielder was a mainstay in the Saints’ side throughout the club’s return to the top flight as they secured a very creditable 14th-placed finish.
Schneiderlin was delighted that the players managed to prove wrong the pre-season doubters who backed them for an immediate return to the Championship.
And he feels the decision of chairman Nicola Cortese to stay put this summer will boost them going into next term.
He told the club’s website: “It was an amazing season.
“As a group, we wanted to show everyone that we have a place in the Premier League. I think that, especially with the people we’ve played in the second half of the season, we have showed that we deserve to be here for a long time.”
On Cortese’s decision to stay Schneiderlin added: “This week we showed that everyone is pulling in the same direction.
“That is very important for a football club. It’s a very hard thing to find.”
