Southampton’s newest signing Eljero Elia showed why Ronald Koeman was so desperate to bring him in with this sublime piece of skill to outwit Phil Jones. The Dutchman looked lively throughout and the early signs are he will fit in well with The Saints’ attacking style.
Elia told BBC Radio Solent:
“I want people to talk positively about me and not negatively. For me this is a very big chance and I will grab it with both hands and do everything to stay at Southampton at the end of the season. Hopefully it goes well and they take the option in my contract. That’s my dream.”
The forward joins Southampton from Werder Bremen on loan for the remainder of the season, with an option to make the deal permanent. Elia will be hoping to improve on his scoring record in Germany where he only managed four goals in 66 Bundesliga appearances.
