On December 5, 2018, Southampton announced that they had appointed Ralph Hasenhuttl as their new First Team Manager, with the Austrian signing a two-and-a-half year contract.

Hasenhuttl had developed a reputation for playing high-intensity football in Germany, leading RB Leipzig to the Europa League quarter-finals while also finishing second to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

Now, just a day after the one-year anniversary of his appointment, Football FanCast have taken some time to reflect on the 52-year-old's first 12 months in charge of the Saints.

Let's take a look at two highs and one low from Hasenhuttl's year at St Mary's...

Southampton 0-9 Leicester

In terms of low points, where else to start?

One of the darkest days in the Saints' history and presumably one of the worst days in Hasenhuttl's managerial career, the south coast side were humiliated in front of their own supporters by Leicester as the Foxes equalled the largest ever Premier League win.

Brendan Rodgers' men were 5-0 up at half-time, and Southampton were utterly embarrassed.

Southampton 3-2 Arsenal

In his first home game in charge, Hasenhuttl guided Southampton to an unlikely 3-2 win over Arsenal, who were enjoying a 22-game unbeaten streak under Unai Emery.

An 85th-minute winner from Charlie Austin saw the Austrian make a perfect first impression on his new side's supporters - he may have already done that before kick-off having ensured that fans were given a free drinks voucher prior to the match.

Portsmouth 0-4 Southampton

Given the huge difference in league position between these two fierce south coast rivals, they very rarely get to face off against one another.

However, earlier this season, the Carabao Cup ensured that Southampton and Portsmouth would go toe-to-toe for the first time since April 2012.

Luckily for Hasenhuttl, he oversaw an emphatic 4-0 rout of the Saints' arch-rivals, allowing Southampton fans to have the bragging rights until the next meeting between the pair - who knows how long it'll take for that to happen.
