Southampton boss confirms £12m flop not in his plans at all

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed £12m midfielder Gaston Ramirez will leave the club, report the Daily Mail.

The Uruguyan is out of contract this summer and has been linked with a return to former club Bologna, the outfit from which he joined the Saints.

Having arrived for a then club record fee in 2012, a relatively strong start to life in the Premier League soon faded away and he has since struggled for game time.

After former boss Nigel Adkins was axed, Ramirez was soon deemed surplus to requirements.

He spent last season on loan with Hull City, though largely flopped as the Tigers suffered relegation to the Championship.

Having made just 48 appearances for the club, he effectively cost around £250,000 per game during his spell on the South Coast.

“He is not in the future plans of the club,” said Ronald Koeman.

Championship side Middlesbrough are also thought to be keen on landing the Uruguay international as they bid to strengthen their promotion charge.
