Southampton closing in on club-record deal

According to reports from Mirror Football, Southampton are on the verge of signing Lille winger Sofiane Boufal in a club-record transfer deal.

The Saints look set to sign the Morocco international for £20million, eclipsing the £15million fee they paid for striker Dani Osvaldo in summer 2013.

Famed for his dribbling ability and having made his name at the same club as the 2015 PFA Player of the Year, some sources have previously dubbed the 22-year-old ‘the new Eden Hazard‘ based on comments from Lille skipper Rio Mavuba.

Boufal was in fine form last season, notching up eleven goals and five assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances. He also completed the second-most successful dribbles per match of any player in the French top flight, as shown below (courtesy of Whoscored):

Boufal’s 2015/16 campaign ended in May due to knee surgery, but he’s expected to to be available again in September.
