When luck is against you, even the smallest things starts to go wrong and Sunderland were guilty of another slip-up last night – this time on social media.
The side rock-bottom in the Premier League had a long journey to the South Coast to face Southampton and the Saints’ record signing Sofiane Boufal proved the difference in emphatic fashion, sending his side through to a quarter-final tie with Arsenal.
Another defeat for Sunderland heaps the pressure upon manager David Moyes but their social media representative was also guilty of a mistake yesterday, which was swiftly picked up by the opposition.

Sunderland’s initial tweet was deleted, but not before Southampton could pounce upon the mistake, pointing out that Nathan Redmond could not have contributed to a Saints’ attack, as it was previously stated by the Black Cats, because he was sat on the bench.
The former Norwich City man did get a run out later on, though, replacing Lloyd Isgrove for the final 18 minutes of the match and helping Southampton grind out a victory that continues their fine run in the EFL Cup.
Now set to face Arsenal towards the end of November, Southampton will fancy their chances of reaching Wembley after a host of big-name sides were knocked out this week – including Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City.
