Southampton eye Serie A ace

McDonald Mariga (Inter Milan)Southampton are plotting a January move for Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 26-year-old – who is the brother of current Saints star Victor Wanyama – was wanted by a host of Premier League clubs over the summer, and even came close to joining Manchester City in 2010.

Despite having been tipped to succeed at inter, the Kenyan international has struggled at the San Siro, and could now be allowed to leave as the Serie A giants set about their winter business.

Mariga is thought to be surplus to requirements, which could allow Southampton to tie up a move for his signature.

Wanyama has made an excellent start to life at St Mary’s Stadium, and Mauricio Pochettino is keen to partner him with his sibling.

The two have a good relationship and regularly feature together at international level.

Mariga is known for his strength and energy, which should suit him to the South Coast club’s high tempo playing style.

With first-team opportunities likely to be scarce in Milan, the former Parma man may be keen to link up with his brother in the Premier League.

Could Victor Wanyama and McDonald Mariga be a fearsome pairing for Southampton?
