According to Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas on Twitter, there is an outside chance that Tottenham Hotspur could loan out Victor Wanyama before Thursday's deadline if they can find a potential suitor, and Southampton fans have called for their club to re-sign the Kenya international.

Thomas says that Spurs are yet to find a potential new club for the 28-year-old, who appears to have fallen down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon earlier in the summer.

He has made 93 appearances for the north London outfit, but has suffered from his fair share of injury issues in recent seasons – missing 47 matches since the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign according to Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Saints do have central midfield options in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse, but with Mario Lemina currently frozen out and not wanted, they do look short of another defensively-minded player in central areas.

Wanyama would certainly fit the bill given he provided an effective barrier alongside Morgan Schneiderlin in front of the backline during his previous spell – they only conceded 33 Premier League goals in 2014/15 – and it is a move that a number of Saints supporters on the popular social media platform seem keen on.

While one said they would "take him back in a second", another urged director of football operations Ross Wilson to "get on this".
