There is no question that Shane Long works hard, but there is no getting away from the fact that his goal record is not good enough for a player in the final third of the field.

Indeed, Long has only managed 27 goals in 156 appearances for Southampton since his arrival from Hull City in 2014.

The Republic of Ireland international was named in the starting XI against Brighton & Hove Albion on Monday night, but failed to make an impression.

Well the 5ft 11in ace did make an impression, but it was a pretty poor one. That is according to the Southampton fans, who were unhappy with his display once again.

Long was replaced by Manolo Gabbiadini in the 76th minute of the match, which Southampton led 2-0 before eventually conceding twice to share the spoils.

Long has managed to form a successful career at the top level, but the Southampton fans have seemingly had enough of the 31-year-old.
