The Saints confirmed on Thursday morning that Les Reed would be parting company with the club.

In a polite way of saying he was sacked, the club’s official announcement stated that Southampton believed it was time to make a necessary change in order to provide "new drive and direction to our football operations and get results back on track."

Certainly, recent results have been far from ideal, with the St Mary’s Stadium side struggling in front of goal and languishing just a point outside the relegation zone having fought for survival last season.

Not too long ago, Southampton were flying high under Mauricio Pochettino and then Ronald Koeman, but recent results have not been the same under Claude Puel, Mauricio Pellegrino and Mark Hughes.

Out of the three to succeed the Dutch coach who departed for Everton, only Puel had a win percentage higher than 30% - Pellegrino 23, Hughes 21.

These fans are certainly delighted to see a change in leadership, and only hope it’s the beginning…
