According to The Mirror, Southampton have moved into a strong position to sign Stoke City attacker Xherdan Shaqiri in this summer's transfer window.

Shaqiri will leave Stoke City following their relegation from the Premier League, and a number of top-flight clubs have been linked with the Swiss international.

However, according to The Mirror, Southampton are ready to activate Shaqiri's £12m release clause as Saints boss Mark Hughes, who brought the attacker to England, prepares for a reunion.

Shaqiri scored eight times and registered seven assists in 36 Premier League appearances for Stoke during the 2017-18 campaign.

And it is not a surprise that so many teams are interested in the former Bayern Munich attacker.

It appears that Southampton are in a strong position to get the deal done though, and the club's supporters have been reacting to the transfer report.

To put it plainly, the Southampton fans are desperate for the deal to go through.
