Former Southampton manager Claude Puel returns to St Mary’s for the first time since he was sacked in June as his Leicester City side look for their fourth successive Premier League win, and Saints fans are still divided on the decision to relieve the Frenchman of his duties.
The south coast outfit decided to give the 56-year-old the boot despite the fact he led them to the League Cup final and an eighth-place finish in the English top flight, but a lack of goals and entertainment – they failed to score in their final five home matches last term.
However, the jury is still out on new boss Mauricio Pellegrino while Puel has led Leicester above Saints and up to eighth position in the table after replacing Craig Shakespeare in October.
Southampton fans were quick to have their say on the former Lille chief ahead of his return to the south coast, and they are still divided with their opinions on his sacking six months after it happened.
While one said “he lost the team”, another said he “should’ve been given more time as we haven’t improved”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Not in the slightest.

No, he had lost the fans and, it seems, the team as well. Don’t think he is a bad manager, just not right for us at the time. Wish him well at Leicester- apart from tomorrow obv.

No ! We saw enough of his style of play…under the current manager we have that attacking style of football back and we have seen improvement…with the right strike force up front we would be in the top 6…it's taken MoPo a while for the penny to drop…think it finally has 🤔

Yes should've been given more time, we haven't improved, shows much of the problem is with the players and deeper in backroom. second season was bound to be better too adjusting to english football

Tbh ya. I think after a full season and having time to reassess the squad in the summer he would have been able to fix the lack of goals
