According to reports in The Mirror, out of favour Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is eyeing a return to Southampton as the south coast outfit consider selling Ryan Bertrand to Manchester City, and Saints fans are divided on the rumour.
The Mirror says that Shaw is looking to leave the Red Devils three years after he joined them from Southampton having made just two appearances – both in the Carabao Cup – this season, and he currently looks to be behind Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian in the left-back pecking order under Jose Mourinho.
Meanwhile, Saints could be ready to sell Bertrand to the Citizens if they receive a huge offer in the New Year as Pep Guardiola looks for cover for the injured Benjamin Mendy, which could leave Mauricio Pellegrino searching for a new full-back.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the story via social media, and they were divided with their opinions.
While one simply said “yes please”, another was against the potential move because “he’s not the player he was”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
The problem is, if things went well, he'd use us as a springboard for another move. If it didn't go well, we'd be stuck with his wages.

Would be a great signing if he was fit but he’s been so unfit for years now he’s not the player he was!

Wouldn't be totally against it, but would need to prove his fitness first, but won't be able to when not playing at United

Shaw needs to come home and remake his career, would be warm welcomed back too #SaintsFC

Shaw would be overpriced, over weight and on too high a salary. Would be a terrible move.
