Southampton signed former Nice right-back Jeremy Pied on Monday, adding depth to the position that already features Cuco Martina and Cedric Soares.
Many remember Martina in particular for one brilliant goal. His right-foot bender was arguably the best goal of the Premier League season, as Southampton handed Arsenal a shocking 4-0 defeat.
Sadly, his most memorable moment to date came in his first Southhampton start. He has added competition for pitch time with Pied now in the mix.
The 27-year-old Pied formerly worked with Newcastle manager Claude Puel in Lyon and Nice.
The newest Saint took to Twitter to express his excitement on joining the Premier League side…

Others weren’t as elated.
The club’s buildup toward signing a marquee player lingered on, and some fans had hopes for someone different.
If all this build up is for Jeremy Pied I'm done. #saintsfc

If it's Jeremy Pied that is a massive disappointment in all fairness.

Another account chided Southhampton for the anticlimactic ending.
If it's Jeremy Pied #saintsfc have seriously over estimated the reaction with the tease….

Others were indifferent, simply because they didn’t know of Pied.

Overall, the general reception to Pied was underwhelming. The club added a relatively unknown player to their squad, and several fans voiced their displeasure.
That, of course, will all change if he performs.
