A number of Southampton fans have been on social media criticising James Ward-Prowse for his recent form and indeed his performance against Chelsea.

The 24-year-old actually captained the Saints in their 3-0 defeat to Burnley on August 10, whilst he has contributed one goal from midfield this season.

The Englishman found it difficult to make his mark against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, though, as the south-coast outfit suffered a 4-1 home defeat.

According to WhoScored, Ward-Prowse only had a 76% pass success rate, whilst he managed just one shot - a free kick over the crossbar - during his 90 minutes on the field.

It was a tough afternoon for Southampton against a Chelsea side that are showing plenty of promise under the leadership of Frank Lampard.

But the Saints fans did not have much sympathy with their players after the match, and a number were particularly unhappy with Ward-Prowse, whose overall form this season has been questioned as well as his display on Sunday.
