Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Nathan Redmond for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints went 1-0 up thanks to yet another goal from Danny Ings, although Ralph Hasenhuttl's side threw it all away after goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Federico Fernandez - both formerly of Swansea.

Disappointingly, the turnaround victory for the Magpies leaves Southampton in the relegation zone on 15 points, and in the midst of another poor result for the south coast side - their ninth defeat of the season - supporters on Twitter have taken their anger out on Redmond.

The former Birmingham forward has scored just one Premier League goal this season, and couldn't add to that tally during an ineffective outing at St James' Park despite taking three shots on goal, two of which were on target.

Redmond missed a golden opportunity in the first half, and also failed to make a key pass in a showing that has upset some Southampton fans.

This first supporter said that Hasenhuttl should take the 25-year-old out of the firing line and drop him, as he wasted too many chances and is low on confidence.

Another fan said that the Englishman has "gone off the boil" while the supporter below that particular spectator also said that Redmond should be dropped along with right-back Cedric.

Elsewhere, another said that Sofiane Boufal "needs to start" over the former Norwich forward in the next game, which comes against West Ham, another struggling outfit.

Lastly, these two supporters continued the criticism of Redmond, with one saying that Hasenhuttl needs to drop the attacker "for everybody's benefit" while another labelled him and Cedric as "poor and ineffective".
