Maya Yoshida played a key role in Southampton holding Chelsea to a goalless draw in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

The 30-year-old played as part of a back three at Stamford Bridge, and helped keep the likes of Alvaro Morata and Eden Hazard relatively quiet on the night.

Yoshida has not always been a popular figure with the Southampton fans, but there is no question that the supporters were pleased with his performance in London.

Yoshida will now join up with the Japan squad for the Asian Cup, which is a big blow to the Saints when considering his display against Chelsea.

Southampton have taken seven points from their last five Premier League matches, but are still in the relegation zone.

The point at Chelsea was a big step in the right direction though, and Yoshida's performance has been hailed by the Southampton fans.
