Southampton registered their first victory of the new Premier League campaign on Saturday when they overcame Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park by a 2-0 margin. The Saints had Danny Ings to thank for their win, as the striker on loan from Liverpool opened the scoring just after half time with a neat finish through Wayne Hennessey’s legs.

It marked the 26-year-old’s second strike of the new season and the forward, who has endured an injury-ravaged past few campaigns, will be glad to be back playing regular football. If he can keep up this kind of form, as well as his fitness, he may even be in line for an England recall soon enough.

After his match-winning antics for Mark Hughes’ South Coast club, plenty of Saints fans took to Twitter to hail Ings’ contribution. The striker’s bright start to life in their team has plenty hoping that he can fire them to Premier League safety this season…
