According to a report by Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato, via Sport Witness, out-of-favour Southampton centre-back Wesley Hoedt has been offered to Italian giants AC Milan by his representatives.

Calico Mercato report that SEG agent Kees Vos met with club officials at the Serie A outfit's headquarters, and the Netherlands international was one of the topics of discussion – although as Sport Witness say, there is nothing to say whether the San Siro based club are actually interested in the Dutchman.

Hoedt fell by the wayside soon after Ralph Hasenhuttl was appointed as Saints' new manager back in December, joining Celta Vigo on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign in January.

However, despite reports in The Telegraph saying they are keen to move him on during the summer transfer window, he was something of a surprise inclusion in the squad for the pre-season trip to Austria – especially considering the likes of Jordy Clasie, Guido Carrillo, Charlie Austin and Mario Lemina were left at home.

However, the fact that he was one of only two outfield players not to get any minutes against SCR Altach probably tells you all you need to know – Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens, Maya Yoshida and Jannik Vestergaard certainly look to be ahead of him in the pecking order right now, with a centre-back signing a priority.

Hoedt has been regularly pictured in training on the club's return to England, but some Southampton supporters don't appear to have changed their negative opinion on the 25-year-old, who has largely struggled to make a positive impact throughout his time at St Mary's – including two own goals against Manchester City and Liverpool last term.

Fans appear hopeful that this latest rumour will come to fruition.
