Southampton played out a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at St Mary’s on Sunday, and Saints fans were impressed with Jack Stephens’ performance on a rare start.
The south coast outfit took the lead in the third minute when Charlie Austin scored his fourth goal in his last three starts, but Mauricio Pellegrino’s men failed to hold on as substitute Olivier Giroud headed in an equaliser two minutes from time.
Despite making 24 first-team appearances for Saints last season in the absence of Virgil van Dijk through injury and starting their first four Premier League games this term, the 23-year-old hadn’t played at all since the defeat against Watford in September.
However, he started at right-back against the Gunners in the absence of the injured Cedric Soares, and he put in a composed display against Alexis Sanchez.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media, and while one said he was the “MOTM for me”, another said he was “an absolute joy to watch”.

Good performance by all the team today. Special shout to Jack Stephens who didn't look rusty at all. Unlucky not to get the win #SaintsFC

Good performance today. Deserved more but wasted chances cost us. Forster looks far more confident, he's had three good games back to back now. Boufal must start. Stephens always impresses. Austin always scores. Plenty of positives to take forward. #SaintsFC #SOUARS

Stephens was MOTM for me, kept Sanchez out of the game for 90 minutes (except for that cross which wasn't his mistake)
VVD had a brilliant game as well, Romeu, Hojberg and Bertrand too.
Frustrating we didn't end with 3 points.
Bring on Leicester #saintsfc

Not the result we necessarily deserved. But it looks like the team is clicking. Great to see Stephens back, he really is excellent on the ball. Credit to Pellegrino, Austin, Tadic (nice assist) and Pierre. A good display. #saintsfc

Got to say, it was an absolute joy to watch Jack Stephens out there again for #saintsFC today.
So classy on the ball and incredibly smart in his decision making. He’s been a true pro whilst out of the side. pic.twitter.com/iVhqaa5HSL
