According to The Mirror, Manchester United and Arsenal have joined the race to sign Southampton's reported January transfer target Che Adams from Birmingham City, and Saints fans have been quick to react on Twitter.

The same source reported on January 27 that the south coast outfit had tabled an offer of around £8m for the 22-year-old as they looked to strengthen their attacking options before the window closed, but no move materialised with Blues manager Garry Monk's comments suggesting their valuation was nowhere near close to being met.

Now The Mirror says that the stakes have been raised after the in-form Blues frontman netted a first-half hat-trick away at Queens Park Rangers earlier this month, with scouts from United and the Gunners watching the 19-goal striker in action during his side's 1-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers at St Andrew's last week.

Southampton supporters took to social media to have their say on the transfer report, and while one said "typical Saints", another said the club "needed to spend £15m-plus" on him.
